About the event
The Christian practice of spiritual discernment tests God’s call to ministry, and to purpose, action and contemplation. Discernment can become a regular pattern for communities and individuals to open their hearts to the divine presence and find their vocation.
A small group zoom study using Discernment by Henri Nouwen will begin this fall. This 11-week study will help group members navigate spiritual paths and discover God’s guidance in everyday life. Nouwen describes how divine guidance can be found not only in the sacred texts studied but also in books, nature, people and all sorts of experiences.
The study will provide time for participants to immerse themselves in the practice of discernment. Each week will focus on different aspects of listening for God, helping participants attune their hearts and minds to the ways in which the Spirit communicates.
The Rev. Lara Gilbert will lead discussions, reflections, and practical exercises based on Nouwen’s teachings. This small group is a space to grow and learn for everyone: those who are new to the practice of discernment and those who are looking to deepen existing spiritual practices.
