General Convention of the Episcopal Church

80th
General Convention

Baltimore, July 8 - 11, 2022

The General Convention is the governing body of The Episcopal Church. Every three years it meets as a bicameral legislature that includes the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops, composed of deputies and bishops from each diocese. The General Convention also includes Interim Bodies which meet between the triennial sessions to accomplish ongoing work and tasks set in the triennial sessions. The last session of the General Convention was in Austin Texas in July of 2018. The next session of the General Convention, which was originally scheduled for 2021, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 80th General Convention is now scheduled to meet in Baltimore from July 8 - 11, 2022.

Update of General Convention Dates and Participants -

The presiding officers have accepted the recommendations of the group appointed to reduce the size and duration of the 80th General Convention. As announced in their letter, there will be four legislative days (from Friday, July 8th through Monday, July 11th), preceded by registration on Thursday, July 7th. Only deputies, bishops, some alternate deputies, and essential staff and volunteers will attend.

Additional decisions, including enhanced health and safety protocols and legislative recommendations, are expected in the next two weeks. During the week of June 6th, formal action will be taken in accordance with our rules and canons, and the officers have expressed their confidence that these final decisions will accord with the recommendations they accept.
