Pillars of Faith Worship Service

During this post-Pentecost season known as Ordinary Time, our Wyoming Worship Committee has put together a four-week preaching and worship liturgy series titled “Pillars of Faith” for use in our churches during the month of August, based upon the lectionary readings.

The Wyoming Worship Committee hopes this series can assist in drawing our churches into a deeper understanding of what it means to be standing on the “rock of salvation.” This special thematic series comes from A Preacher's Guide to Lectionary Sermon Series: Thematic Plans for Years A, B, and C (available on Amazon here). As always, you are welcome to adapt all material to your local congregation’s needs.

A few aids

-Visual Aid - We encourage the Altar Guild, or Liturgy Committee or whoever oversees the vesting in the church to consider the use of stones throughout the month. Stack them into small or large cairns inside or out or spread them in from of the altar or on pew ends.

-A helpful suggestion - When introducing new liturgy, it may be helpful to remind your congregation that a return to familiar words and music will return after four weeks.

“We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the Gospel has come down to us, which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith.” — Irenaeus of Lyons (130-202 AD)
